Body of Delta State Polytechnic Undergraduate Found Floating in River

A 22-year-old, Bakpo Otueme, an undergraduate of Engineering Daepartment, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe, was at the weekend found dead and floating on River Ethiope in Oghara, Delta State.

It was gathered that Mr. Bakpo, who left home in the morning of that ill-fated day, did not return home three days until a search team found his lifeless body floating in the river.

A young man, who identified himself as Oghenetega, stated that he had gone to the river in the company of Bakpo and another friend to wash their clothes.

"After we finished washing the clothes, we decided to have some fun in the river for about 30 minutes," he explained, adding that while they were swimming, he discovered that Bakpo was finding it difficult to move himself in the water as he constantly held on to a big log that was floating in the water.

He claimed that all his efforts to convince him to get out of the water were abortive as Bakpo claimed that he was fine.

The source added a turbulent tide swung the Bakpo to the deeper part of the river until he finally lost hold of the support he had been holding on to. Oghenetega claimed further that they hurried down to the area to rescue him but could not find him in the water.

Under the fear his friend may have died or was playing pranks on them, the two returned home without telling anyone about what had happened.

He admitted that it was the pressure which was mounted on him by the family of the deceased that compelled him to disclose all that had happened after about three days.
