Niger State Deputy Governor's Brother (Ayuba Ibeto) Kidnapped By Gunmen

The younger brother to Niger state deputy governor, Ahmed Musa Ibeto was kidnapped on Friday at about 10.pm in Ibeto, Magama Local Government Area of Niger state.


Niger state deputy governor, Ahmed Musa IbetoA close Aide to the deputy governor who does not want his name in print confirmed the incident saying the younger brother to the deputy governor, Ayuba Ibeto was kidnapped in the family house of the deputy governor in Ibeto town.

According to him, the armed kidnappers numbering about six arrived the Ibeto's family house in a Golf car and Hilux Van.

He told Daily Trust's reporter that shortly after storming the house, they started shooting sporadically in the air to scare away the residents of the area before whisking away their victim.

The following morning, the kidnappers used the cell phone line of their victim to call his mother, telling her that her son was in a safe hand and that all they needed was money though they did not make any demand for specific amount as ransom at the time of the call.

"The kidnappers arrived the family house of the deputy governor in convoy of two vehicles, a Golf car and Hilux Van on Friday at around 10 pm. On storming the house, they started shooting in the air before kidnapping Ayuba who just wedded.

"Ayuba pleaded with his kidnappers the following morning to speak with his aged mother who is sick so that her condition will not get worse. But instead, they used his cell phone line to call her and told her that her son is safe and all they needed was money," - he stated.

He added that the family made frantic effort to called the line back but it remained switched off up to the time this reporter was filling this report.

The deputy governor had a running battle with his principal, the governor of the state, Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu when the latter ejected the former from his government house office for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressive Congress (APC) in January.

According to Daily Trust's report when contacted, the state police command spokesperson, DSP Ibrahim Gambari said the police was not aware of the incident as he was yet to received any detail in that regard. "I am not aware of any incident of such nature but I will investigate." - He said.
