Suicide Bomber Kills 3, and 10 others Injured

At least three persons were feared killed including one of the suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers that attacked the College of Administration and Business Studies (CABS) in Potiskum town on Friday morning, security officials and witnesses said.

The CABS is located adjacent the secondary school where a suicide bomber exploded himself and killed several students at the school’s assembly.

Police Public Relations officer, Toyin Gbademishin, informed reporters that ten persons, mostly students and staffers of the college were injured by bullet wounds, as they scampered to safety when the attackers came shooting.

But sources in Potiskum as well as some workers at the General Hospital in the town, which is just a stone throw from the college and where the injured were taken to for medication, three out of the victims of the attack later died. This has not been officially confirmed as at the time of filing this story.

An eyewitness, who spoke on the phone under anonymity, narrated how the attack was carried out on the college.

“It happened in the morning when the school was not that crowded”, - said the source. “Two men, one carrying an AK-47 rifle entered the college through the main gate, and when the security man at the Gate tried to interrogate them, one of them brought out the AK-47 and fired at the gate-man.

“When people heard and saw the shooting incident, they began to flee. Some jumped and scaled the fence, while others managed to escape through the gates. The man with the gun turned to the fleeing people and began to shoot sporadically, while the other man ran further into the school premises with the aim of targeting a crowded place before detonating his bomb. But fortunately, everyone was running, so the exploded on him without killing any other person”.

No one could confirm if the other gun man had escaped also.

Yobe police spokesman, Gbademishin, said “there was an attack on the College of Administration and Business Studies by two suspected terrorists and about ten persons were reportedly injured, while the suicide bomber was killed trying to attack innocent persons”.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram terrorists are still unrelenting in their quest to sustain their terror attack as they laid ambush on a police patrol vehicle along Maiduguri- Kano road, injuring three persons including the wife of a senior police chief in Borno state.

According to a police officer working along the highway, “the Boko Haram terrorists had on Wednesday laid ambush on some of our men who went to Damaturu to pick the wife of one of our Ogas (senior officer) and opened fire at them near a village called Dogon waya. No one died, but two police men and the woman sustained injuries on their legs”.

The police officer, who wished not to be quoted, added that the Boko Haram terrorists had returned to the exact spot on Thursday and laid ambush on passenger vehicles where they succeeded in injuring yet another set of travelers.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Marcus Danladi, has confirmed that two people suspected to be Boko Haram members have been arrested, following the bomb explosion in the college
