The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State chapter says the current employment of new teachers into the workforce of the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, by the Rivers State Government is not only fraudulent, but a misplaced-priority and therefore, unacceptable.
In a statement signed by Jerry Needam Special Adviser on Media to State PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah, the party strongly rejects the exercise which has resulted in adding about 500 people to the existing number of staff on the Institutions payroll, inspite of the demonstrable inability of the current management of the school to service its current over heads and other operational cost.
The Party is of the view that rather than venturing into that at the moment, the Rivers State government would have considered paying off the accumulated bills, salaries and allowances owed civil servants and pensioners, who have stories of woes and anguish following the failure of the Governor-Amaechi led administration to pay them as at when due.
For us as a responsible Party, we do not see any moral justification in taking undue advantage of the jobless situation in our State, which is a creation of Governor Amaechi’s administration, by piling up enthusiastic job-seekers in the name of employment when the government cannot upset their monthly bills, neither does the institution have the carrying-capacity to accommodate such additional cost implication.
In as much as we are determined to create jobs for our people and offer them the best of governance in the State, we will not encourage any institution to undertake any public exercise dishonestly and without due adherence to establishing rules and regulations.
Information received on the recent recruitment in RIVPOLY point to the fact that several things are compromised and that the Rivers State Government is not genuine in its actions but playing to the gallery to sustain public support and acceptance.
We are baffled with the fact that inspite of the overheads due Ministries, Parastatals and Agencies of government, which have been withheld since last year, the Rivers State government is still employing more persons without first paying those already in their employment.
Again, following the crooked manner the exercise is being undertaken, we will not accept it, and we therefore, call on the public to rise against increasing cases of fraud and injustice in the Civil Service and other public institutions in the State under the current administration.
The PDP remains committed to offering the people of the State genuine, transparent and befitting jobs and skills as soon as it steps into governance in the State.
