Muhammadu Buhari Calls Barack Obama For Assistance To Wipe-out Boko Haram Insurgents

Ther former ambassador of the United States to Nigeria, John Campbell, on Wednesday urged the United States president, Mr. Barack Obama, to urgently accepted the offer from President Mohammadu Buhari to partner with the American government in a bid to totally wipe-out Boko Haram insurgents.

John Campbell, a major critic of the immediate past administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan made this appeal in his press statement which was made available to leadership correspondent in New York.

“Nigeria’s new President Muhammadu Buhari, has signaled openness to new security relations with Nigeria’s traditional western partners while affirming that Boko Haram is a Nigerian responsibility. The Obama administration should welcome the possibility of a closer relationship,” – he said.

He however thanked the Obama-led administration for offering to help the immediate past administration following the international response over Boko Haram’s 2014 kidnapping of hundreds of school girls from the town of Chibok.

John Campbell disclosed that anonymous State Department sources suggested that the United States could move quickly to supply advisers and enhanced intelligence sharing with Nigeria in order to stop terrorists from further deadly attacks.

Underscoring the fact that Boko Haram is far from defeated, Campbell condemned the several attacks that they carried out over the May 30-31 weekend in the city of Maiduguri in Borno state and Ngalda and Fika towns in Yobe state.

The Senior Fellow at the United States Council for Foreign Relations (CFR) said that these attacks emphasized the need for the President Buhari-led administration to move quickly.
