Mechanic Faces Jail Term For Selling His Customer’s Car in Lagos State

A 30-year-old mechanic identified as Tunde Yahaya is facing the possibility of spending some years in jail for breaking the trust of his customer, Adeniyi Adeosun, by allegedly selling a car given to him to repairs for personal gains at Adebayo Mokuolu Street, Anthony Village, Lagos state.

Yahaya is believed to have put up the vehicle for sale in the absence of Adeosun, who was on a business trip. One Mr. Emiola Ramoni bought the car for ₦500,000, and made a quick gain of ₦90,000 by selling the car to another suspect, now at large, for ₦590, 000.

Adeosun, on his arrival from the trip, however, suspected foul play when his efforts to reach Yahaya proved abortive. Adeosun then reported the matter to policemen at the Anthony division.

Yahaya and Ramoni were arrested and arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on three counts.

The charges read in part,
“That you, Tunde Yahaya, Emiola Ramoni and other at large, sometime in the month of February, 2015, on Adebayo Mokuolu Street, Anthony Village, Lagos, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; stealing and receiving stolen propert.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty. The magistrate, Mrs. E. N. Johnson, granted them bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till September 10, 2015.
