President Buhari To Save $1millon For Nigeria, Cancels Government Delegation To Hajj
President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that there would be no federal government delegation for this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia. This is in a bid to cut cost of governance.
While the government will not be sending a delegation, it will continue its traditional roles of providing consular, medical and security services to Nigerian pilgrims. The president’s decision is expected to save about $1 million and ₦30million in local expenses.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu who stated this on Monday, Buhari says that the decision was not targeted at any individual or group. He also said that States were free to sponsor their pilgrims, if they wish.
“The states can deal with that (appointment of own delegations) but this year at the Center, we will not be involved,” – Shehu said.
